The villa, located in a wooded inlet of the lake, took its name from Pliny the Younger, who described an intermittent spring of a karst nature. A reference to the source can also be found in the work Naturalis Historia by Pliny the Elder, which reports that «In the Comense area, near the shores of Lake Lario, there is a copious source that always waxes and wanes every hour». Leonardo also described a visit to the spring that took place a few years before the palace was erected. Currently the complex is managed by the luxury hotel chain Sereno Hotels which organizes ceremonies and cultural events.

The lake, with its serene and crystalline waters, plays a central role in the magic of Moltrasio. During the tour you will be able to appreciate the lakefront and admire the classic villas and their magnificent facades that are reflected on the water. This place is a true paradise for photography lovers.

Villa Fontanelle was built in 1781 as a summer residence for the noble Fontanelle family. In 1977, when it was purchased by Italian designer Gianni Versace, it was in a state of disrepair and the new owner set about restoring it to its neoclassical glory. Before Versace's death, celebrities such as Sir Elton John, Sting, Prince, Diana Spencer and Madonna were regular guests at the establishment. The villa has often been used as a location for films and television shows, including the famous James Bond film "Casino Royale", where the villa was used as the residence of Mr. White.

Villa d'Este, originally Villa del Garovo (or Villa del Garrovo), is a patrician residence. The first building built in the area where Villa d'Este now stands was commissioned by Gerardo Landriani Capitani, Bishop of Como, who in 1442 built a female convent here, near the stream called Garovo. Villa d'Este is today a hotel intended for the wealthiest clientele, and is also a destination for high-level congress tourism. Since 1975, the Ambrosetti Forum has been held annually at the hotel, a summit of international importance on politics, finance and industry. The villa was also one of the locations of the famous film "Ocean's Twelve", where the outdoor swimming pool was used for some scenes.

As you approach Cernobbio from the lake, you will be confronted with breathtaking scenery. As you admire the view, you can't help but notice the two famous residences that rise majestically along the lake shore: Villa d'Este, a symbol of luxury and refinement, and Villa Erba, with its elegance and charm.

Villa Olmo owes its name to a magnificent elm tree at the time more than a hundred years old, no longer existing today, which legend has it was planted by Pliny the Younger. Built by the will of the Marquis Innocenzo Odescalchi, it was to serve as the summer residence of the Marquises. The construction work began in 1782 and was completed in 1797. In 1924 the villa passed to the Municipality of Como which made it the venue for conferences, painting exhibitions, cultural and musical events. In 1927 the villa hosted the international exhibition on the first centenary of the death of Alessandro Volta.
